Margan Wines

New South Wales | Hunter Valley | Wonnarua Country

Our Review

Margan Vineyards was established by Andrew and Lisa Margan in ‘96. Today it incorporates 2 of the 2nd generation, Alessa and Ollie, as viticulturist and winemaker respectively. Andrew continues to oversee the viticultural and winemaking side; Lisa, the tourism and restaurant. The estate boasts 100ha of vines and the vineyards are largely on the lauded Fordwich Sill, a geological formation dating back 200 million years. They are a mix of old vines (50+ years) planted to traditional varieties including semillon, chardonnay and shiraz, as well as younger plantings of new and exciting varieties albariño and barbera. Field blends of shiraz/mourvèdre and tempranillo/graciano/shiraz are unique to the region. -NED GOODWIN MW
