Our Review
Usher Tinkler is the progeny of 3 generations of Hunter farming, setting out on his own after first making wine (of sorts) in the family bathtub. His nemesis, boring wines. Like other aesthetic forms of expression, Tinkler strives for emotional connection with the end consumer. Set in the original Pokolbin church built in 1905, Tinkler’s tasting room is as iconoclastic as it is brimming with a sense of place. Much like his wines: the Nose to Tail series tweaks Hunter classics into an easygoing vibe of idiosyncratic blends, while the Usher Tinkler Reserve wines are firmly of place, melding the Hunter’s proclivity for bright fruit and its shiraz’s earthen terracotta accent, with quality oak and stridently extracted structural latticework. They age well. -NED GOODWIN MW
