Self-described wine tragics Peter and Barbara Jensen chose to leave Sydney to pursue their dream of owning a small vineyard in an idyllic setting in the Hunter Valley. In 2004 they found a block of 40-year-old vines and began the long task of completely rejuvenating the vineyard, securing the services of Nick Paterson (Chateau Pâto) as contract winemaker. The 2.5ha of chardonnay included in the plantings are among the oldest in the Hunter Valley. Drew Gibson acquired Noonji Estate several years ago, but still sells and stocks Noonji Estate-labelled wines, while introducing Writer's Block in '11.
Planted nearly half a century ago on some of the Hunter's finest Semillon and Chardonnay land is the award-winning Writer's Block and Noonji Estate.
Our wines are sold under the award-winning Noonji Estate label as well as our new label, Writer's Block. Both include a crisp Semillon and a unique old-vine Chardonnay, with vintages going back to 2006.
We've also just launched a wickedly effervescent sparkling rose and will soon release our very special Shiraz.
You won't find our products in Sydney - all of our wines are sold exclusively at the cellar door or online.
So drop by for a taste next time you're in the Hunter and find out why this vineyard has wine lovers excited.
In the meantime, feel free to stroll through our picture galleries or find out more about the vineyard and our awards.
