Wynwood Estate is owned by Winston Wine Pty Ltd, the Australian arm of what is described as one of the largest and fastest-growing wine distributors in China, with 100 wine stores established across the country. Wynwood has almost 30ha of low-yielding vineyards, including shiraz (8ha), merlot (5ha), chardonnay (4ha), verdelho (3ha) and muscat (1ha). It has some dry-grown 95+-year-old shiraz vines that only produce an average of 0.75 tonnes of fruit each vintage. Plantings were extended in 2014 with durif (3ha), malbec and roussanne (1ha each). Wynwood also sources cabernet franc, grenache and merlot from company-owned vineyards in the Barossa Valley. Winemaker Peter Lane has had a long career in the Hunter Valley (Mount Pleasant, Tulloch and Tyrrell's).
These wines are made from selected parcels of fruit from the best of our vineyards. These wines are made to show case the vineyards and the ‘terroir’ from which they are made. The fruit must meet the standards required for this range and will be re-allocated in years when these standards are not met. The wines in the Reserve Range are made to enjoy immediately but will benefit from patient cellaring.
Limited Release Range
This range of wines is made from varieties grown in the Barossa Valley. This fruit offers a set of different characters and flavours then does the Reserve Range from the Hunter Valley. These varietals are typically bolder and fuller bodied with mouth coating tannin. These wines can be enjoyed now or carefully cellared and enjoyed well into the future.
Grey Gum Range
The wines in this range offer excellent value and are made to show case the varieties from which they are made. The wines in this range tend to be reliable from each vintage to the next and reflect the dedication and commitment from the viticultural team at Wynwood Estate. While these wines will benefit from short to midterm cellaring they have been made to enjoy upon release.
These wines display the descriptors typical of the varieties from which they are made. They retain a moderate amount of natural fruit sweetness and balanced acidity that make them an easy drinking style. This range of wines has been made for immediate enjoyment and will not benefit greatly from any cellaring.
