This seems certain to be the last oenological resting place of Philip Shaw, the genius who made the building of the Rosemount Estate empire possible. It was none of his fault that increasing its production from 700 000 dozen bottles in 2000 to more than 2 million dozen in 2002 was not even close to being sustainable, nor that (figuratively) the sky should fall down on its new owner (Southcorp) and Rosemount's brand value. Shaw was several jumps in front of the field; he had put in train the purchase of the Koomooloo Vineyard (part in the Orange GI, part in the Central Tablelands), and the following year excised 47ha from Koomooloo for his retirement business, Philip Shaw Wines. In 2015 he passed ownership of Philip Shaw Wines to his sons Daniel and Damien, and built a 50t winery on an ever-smaller block for his ultimate retirement business HOOSEGG.
