Tractorless Vineyard

New South Wales | Southern Highlands

Our Review

The winery name puts the philosophy of owner Jeff Aston into high relief. All the vineyard work is now done in accordance with biodynamic practices, in particular involving the integration of intensive cell grazing of sheep in the growing season. This means the elimination of weed control and mid-row grass management, at the same time producing 100% grass-fed lamb. It has to be said that the Southern Highlands' temperamental summer weather provides challenges for biodynamic management in wet vintages. This to one side, Tractorless Vineyard now joins an ever-growing number of producers claiming various carbon certifications, each billed as unique, depending on which organisation (if any) is responsible for certification. Tractorless goes in its own way by becoming the first carbon negative producer (as opposed to carbon neutral). Exports to the US and China. -JAMES HALLIDAY
