Brett Snelson and Gregg Ainsworth say they take a handcrafted regional approach to the production of their wines. They seek to ensure that the emphasis remains on terroir, sourcing grapes from the Grampians, Geelong, Yarra Valley, Barossa and Coonawarra. Brett keeps his winemaking skills sharp with an annual vintage in Roussillon. Exports to the UK, India, Dubai, Hong Kong and China.
Who We Are:
Ainsworth & Snelson was founded in 2001 by Gregg Ainsworth and winemaker Brett Snelson. Gregg had spent an 11-year career in corporate wines & spirits which took in Moet Hennessy, Diageo (UD) and Allied Domecq, in Europe and Asia, having become steeped in wine culture working in Champagne at Moët & Chandon.
Brett, after spending 12 years as an Exercise Physiologist working with professional teams, athletes and individuals, followed his true passion, wine.
Making his first ‘backyard’ wine at age 23, Brett completed vintages in Australia before heading off to Chile and France to explore other winemaking philosophies & techniques. Making wine in France helped cement Brett’s belief that wine should have a sense of time and place.
The concept of producing wines from varietals grown in their most suitable regions was born early 2002. Brett continues his links to France with an annual pilgrimage to Roussillon and more recently St Emilion and Bordeaux.
Ainsworth & Snelson is independently-owned and managed, based in Melbourne but producing a range of premium handcrafted wines in different regions which underline our belief in the concept of ‘Australian terroir’. We believe that there are some classic ‘Australian’ grapes, each of which has a region whose specific conditions allow this grape to best expressed, hence our:

In August of 2007 The Wine Companion first designated us a ‘5-Star Winery’ an honour we have again in the 2010 edition
Our wines were served to Tony Blair and members of the British Royal family in London in 2006 at the Lord Mayor’s Banquet. We are served in what is often regarded as Australia’s Best Restaurant, Vue De Monde, in The Dorchester, Claridges and The Savoy in London, and Alain Ducasse’s Spoon in Kong Kong.
Our wines are already sold in premium On & Off establishments in Australia and in the UK, USA, France, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong & China.
