Ashton Hills Vineyard

South Australia | Adelaide Hills

James' Review

Stephen George made Ashton Hills one of the great producers of Pinot Noir in Australia, and by some distance the best in the Adelaide Hills. With no family succession in place, he sold the business to Wirra Wirra in April 2015. (It had been rumoured for some time that he was considering such a move, so when it was announced, there was a sigh of relief that it should pass to a business such as Wirra Wirra, with undoubted commitment to retaining the extraordinary quality of the wines.) Stephen will continue to live in the house on the property, and provide ongoing consulting advice. Exports to the US, Hong Kong and China.

Founded by Stephen George in 1982 Ashton Hills has acquired an international reputation as one of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir producers. A unique site in the Piccadilly Valley that has carefully cultivated a range of Pinot Noir clones over 30 years, the Ashton Hills Vineyard sits 570 metres above sea level and is regarded as a true pioneer in cool climate Adelaide Hills wines.
