Life and business partners NZ-born Frewin Ries and Barossa-born Candice Helbig crammed multiple wine lives into a relatively short period, before giving up secure jobs and establishing CRFT in 2013. Frewin’s CV includes Cloudy Bay and the iconic Sonoma pinot noir producer Williams Selyem, amongst others. Candice is a sixth-generation Barossan. She trained as a laboratory technician before moving to winemaking at Hardys, gaining her degree in oenology and viticulture from CSU and on to Boar’s Rock and Mollydooker. The core focus is on small-batch single-vineyard Adelaide Hills pinot noir, chardonnay and grüner veltliner. The Arranmore vineyard was purchased in 2016, gaining NASAA organic certification in 2019, and wines are made with a minimal-intervention approach. Exports to Luxembourg and Singapore.
CRFT Wines express the individualism of location. Co-founded by winemakers Candice Helbig and Frewin Ries in 2012, they produce only Single Vineyard wines with a focus on grower, vineyard and subregion, each wine a pure reflection of site. All wines are hand-made with minimal intervention by Candice & Frewin at their boutique winery & vineyard in Carey Gully, Adelaide Hills. They purchased the 5 acre Arranmore Vineyard in March 2016.
