Growing up on his family's farm in the Adelaide Hills, Hugh Guthrie developed an early interest in the wines and vineyards of the region, completing a Masters of Oenology at the University of Adelaide before working in wineries around Australia and abroad. Most recently he was a winemaker at The Lane Vineyard, winner of many awards for its wines. Wife Sarah's interest has always been more in drinking than in making wine, and her work as an anaesthetist and mother is already a more than full-time job. Looking after the business side of Guthrie Wines mops up any of her spare time. In 2014 Hugh held his breath, jumped, quit his day job, and became full-time winemaker at Guthrie Wines.
