Larry Jacobs and Marc Dobson, both originally from South Africa, purchased Hahndorf Hill Winery in 2002. Larry gave up a career in intensive care medicine in 1988 when he bought an abandoned property in Stellenbosch, and established the near-iconic Mulderbosch Wines. When Mulderbosch was purchased at the end of '96, the pair migrated to Australia and eventually found their way to Hahndorf Hill. In '06, their investment in the winery and cellar door was rewarded by induction into the South Australian Great Tourism Hall of Fame. In '07 they began converting the vineyard to biodynamic status, and they were among the first movers in implementing a carbon offset program. They imported three clones of gruner veltliner from Austria, in '16 expanding the Austrian varieties further by planting St Laurent. In '16 it was Best Producer of Show less than 100 tonnes at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show, the White Mischief Gruner Veltliner winning the trophy for Best Gruner Veltliner, the Rose winning the trophy for Best Rose at the Winewise Small Vignerons Award (and a gold medal at the Melbourne Wine Awards). Exports to the UK, Singapore and China.
