Howard Vineyard is a family-owned Adelaide Hills winery set amongst towering gum trees, and terraced lawns. Pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris and sauvignon blanc are sourced from the 470m altitude Schoenthal 'Beautiful Valley' Vineyard, near Lobethal, whilst Howard's Nairne Vineyard, in the warmer Mt Barker district is home to shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. All the wines are estate-grown. Winemaker Tom Northcott has a Bachelor Degree in Viticulture and Oenology from Adelaide University, and has worked vintages in the South of France, Barossa Valley, Western Australia and Tasmania. Exports to Hong Kong and China.

In 1889 Amos William Howard discovered subterranean clover growing naturally in the Adelaide Hills. Triggering a thriving clover seed industry, Howard Vineyard and Cellar Door now occupy the site of his discovery.
Established in the late 1990's, the Howard Vineyard group owns two vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and is one of the largest independent growers of premium Adelaide Hills grapes.
Howard Vineyard was established in 2005 and the Cellar Door opened in November 2006. Grapes from selected blocks of both our vineyards are used to make our wines.

The Schoenthal (“beautiful valley”) Vineyard comprises 36 hectares near Lobethal and is a cool site in a cool climate. This is best for the earlier ripening varieties including the whites of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris and also the red Pinot Noir. The elevation of 440 – 500 metres with an east facing aspect ensures ideal ripening during the autumn but with some sun protection during hot summer afternoons.
The Howard Vineyard of 24 hectares lies between Nairne, Littlehampton and Mt. Barker in the eastern Adelaide Hills. Located near the crest of the valley at an elevation of 360 – 400 metres and north-west facing it provides a warmer site in a cool climate. The site has slightly greater, sunlight exposure during the autumn and ensures the later-ripening varieties will consistently mature before harvest. This is ideal for growing premium red wine grapes including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Howard Vineyard was recently judged the best Cabernet Franc vineyard in Australia.
