Our Review
Nepenthe quickly established its reputation as a producer of high quality wines, but founder Ed Tweddell died unexpectedly in 2006 and the business was purchased by Australian Vintage Limited the following year. The winery was closed in '09 and winemaking operations transferred to McGuigan Wines (Barossa Valley). The Nepenthe winery has since been purchased by Peter Leske and Mark Kozned, and provides contract winemaking services via their Revenir venture. Nepenthe has 93ha of close-planted vines in the Adelaide Hills, with an exotic array of varieties. Exports to all major markets.
About
Nepenthe Wines was established in 1994, with just 24 hectares under vine, driven by the vision to become one of the region’s benchmark wineries, known for producing premium wines that showcase the unique nature of the wild and diverse Adelaide Hills. Our vineyards consist of traditional varietals such as Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as well as emerging grapes such as Gruner Veltliner, Arneis and Zinfandel.
We adopt a minimal intervention approach to winemaking, believing good wine is made in the vineyard. We source from a variety of sites throughout the Adelaide Hills to achieve complexity and great quality in our wines. Never one to rest on our laurels, we are constantly exploring new vineyards and techniques to capture the essence of our micro-climates and varietals.
Our wines are vibrant, fresh and textural. Nepenthe’s wines have been recognised as benchmark examples of quality and regional expression throughout the world, impressing both critics and consumers.
