Nine Fingers

Simon and Penny Cox established their sauvignon blanc vineyard after encouragement from local winemaker Robb Cootes of Leland Estate. The small vineyard has meant that they do all the viticultural work, and meticulously tend the vines. They obviously have a sense of humour, which may not be shared by their youngest daughter Olivia. In 2002, 2-year-old Olivia's efforts to point out bunches that needed to be thinned resulted in Penny's secateurs cutting off the end of Olivia's finger. A race to hospital and successful microsurgery resulted in the full restoration of the finger; strangely, Olivia has shown little interest in viticulture since. Exports to Singapore. -JAMES HALLIDAY
