Koerner Wine

South Australia | Clare Valley

Our Review

Brothers Damon and Jonathan (Jono) Koerner grew up in the Clare Valley but flew the coop to work and study in other parts of Australia and abroad. They started Koerner Wine together after their parents, Anthony and Christine Koerner, handed down the family vineyard, Gullyview, which they had run for 40 years. The pair made a good dent in modernising the ‘classic’ Clare Valley style, specialising in early picked, minimal-intervention wines and utilising terracotta and ceramic fermenters ranging from vermentino to sangiovese, nebbiolo and beyond. In 2024, after 10 years together, the brothers split the business into two streams, with Damon leading Koerner Wine and Jono transforming what was Brothers Koerner, a second label, into a new brand known as Gullyview Estate. The duo are still tied by more than blood – Jono and Damon both work with fruit from the family vineyard, while Damon has the neighbouring Parish vineyard in Clare Valley, the Home Block vineyard in Adelaide Hills and a newer block in Lenswood, which will be planted to chardonnay. -HALLIDAY TEAM
