Thanks to careers in government and the oil industry, Alex and Bill Talbot started their journey to wine in 1997 while working and living at Woomera in the SA desert. They purchased land in the Sevenhill area of the Clare Valley, having fallen in love with the place, and dreamed of some day making wine for their friends. They then moved to various places in Asia, including Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Singapore, their minds always returning to their Sevenhill vineyard. They now live in the house they built high on the block, giving views across the vineyard, and have the opportunity to tend the vines whenever they please. Initially the grapes were sold, but since 2012 they have kept enough of the production to have 1000 dozen made across their two distinctly different Shiraz styles. The labels are striking and evocative.

Talbots Block is a boutique winery that does just one thing...it makes shiraz. Seriously good shiraz. And the fruit for all our wine comes from just one source: our own low-yielding Talbots Block vineyard at Sevenhill in South Australia's Clare Valley.
Our wines exemplify the grace of the Clare Valley's elegant cool climate shiraz, but they stand out for their concentrated dark fruit character and their long soft finish. Two distinct wine styles are produced: The Prince is lightly oaked and fruit driven - a wonderful, easy drinking style. The Sultan, our flagship wine, is given more oak exposure and more time before release to add elegance and complexity - the perfect choice when you want to impress.
