This is one of the most successful wineries on Kangaroo Island, owned by Jeff and Val Howard, with son Brodie as winemaker at the onsite winery. It has three vineyards on Dudley Peninsula: Porky Flat Vineyard, Hog Bay River and Sawyers. Two daughters and a daughter-in-law manage the cellar door sales, marketing and bookkeeping. Most of the wines are sold through licensed outlets on the Island.
Dudley Wines is Kangaroo Island’s pioneer winery, established in 1997.
It is a small family run business and produces a 100% Kangaroo Island product, handcrafted on Kangaroo Island by fifth generation Islander Brodie Howard from Kangaroo Island fruit.
Brodie enjoys bringing together creativity, passion and uniqueness in every bottle he produces. He controls every step of the process from grape to barrel to bottle as it is all done in the winery situated right alongside the vineyards on Kangaroo Island, and therefore he knows exactly what goes into every bottle. Brodie has never been one to play it by the book, and his unique blends reflect this. He loves experimenting, but has also gained Australia-wide accolades for his traditional wines.
An important aspect of grape growing on Kangaroo Island is it’s cool climate. It is distinctly maritime in nature, providing fresh evening sea-breezes throughout the ripening season. The result is grapes that have concentrated and clearly defined varietal flavour components.
