Watkins

South Australia | Langhorne Creek

Our Review

Sibling trio Ben, Sam and Jo Watkins, under the guidance of parents David and Ros Watkins, have established Watkins as a new label based at their Chandlers Hill winery and cellar door in the Adelaide Hills. They are tapping into their well-established estate vineyards there and in Langhorne Creek: both regions’ vines are maritime influenced, with afternoon sea breezes tempering summer ripening temperatures. The top-of-the-ridge cellar door overlooks rolling hillside vines on one side and St Vincent Gulf on the other. Winemaker Sam Watkins has worked in the Napa Valley and Porto, as well as Orange, Coonawarra, Barossa and McLaren Vale. Brother Ben is commercial director, and sister Jo is brand director and cellar door manager. -TONY LOVE
