Owned and run by Joch Bosworth (viticulture and winemaking) and partner Louise Hemsley-Smith (sales and marketing), this winery takes its name from the battle that ended the War of the Roses, fought on Bosworth Field in 1485. The vineyards were established in the early 1970s in the foothills of the Mt Lofty Ranges. The vines are fully certified A-grade organic. The label depicts the yellow soursob (Oxalis pes-caprae), whose growth habits make it an ideal weapon for battling weeds in organic viticulture. Shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay account for 75% of the plantings. The Spring Seed wines are made from estate vineyards. Exports to the UK, the US, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Hong Kong and Japan.


Battle of Bosworth makes organically grown wines from our family vineyards located in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Battle of Bosworth was established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith, and the wines take their name from the original Battle of Bosworth, fought on Bosworth Field, Leicestershire, England in 1485.

Our modern day Battle of Bosworth saw the conversion of 'Edgehill' vineyard to organic viticulture in 1995 on vineyards established in the early 1970’s by Joch’s parents. All our vines are certified 100% ‘A’ grade organic by Australian Certified Organic. Our certified organic grapes are grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers, or GMOs. We use soursobs (‘oxalis’) to control winter weed growth, and this vibrant yellow flower features on the Battle of Bosworth labels.

Battle of Bosworth make wines with flavour, texture, purity and balance, that best express the unique characteristics of their McLaren Vale foothills site. We make an oaked Chardonnay , a Sauvignon Blanc, a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Shiraz, preservative free unoaked shiraz ‘Puritan’, a ‘Best of Vintage flagship red blend and the Amarone-inspired ‘White Boar ’Shiraz .

We also make the Spring Seed Wine Co. range of wines which are also made using the fruit from our organic vineyards. The labels for these wines are inspired by turn of the last century flower seed packets. Each Spring Seed wine – ‘Scarlet Runner’ Shiraz, ‘Forget-me-not’ Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, ‘Four O’clock’ Chardonnay, ‘Sweet Pea’ Moscato and ‘Poppy’ Pinot Grigio features three different flower seed labels per bottling.
