This is the venture of Anthony (Tony) and Krystina De Lisio, focused primarily on McLaren Vale Shiraz and Grenache, the exceptions being a Southern Fleurieu Pinot Grigio and a four-varietal blend red (Quarterback), which provide the major part of the volume of De Lisio Wines. Tony has many years' experience as a viticulturist and vineyard manager in McLaren Vale, and has been able to source grapes grown just north of McLaren Vale township, at Clarendon, Blewitt Springs, Kangarilla and McLaren Flat. The overall style of the wines is strongly oriented to the US, to which a significant part of the production is exported. The style is achieved through very ripe grapes from low-yielding, mainly old vines, which are open-fermented and barrel-aged in predominantly French oak for up to 22 months. Exports to the US, Canada, Denmark, Singapore, Hong Kong and China.
At De Lisio Wines our intention when making wine, apart from trying to achieve excellent results, is to encourage debate, opinion and reaction; there seems to be nothing that stirs the conversation more than wine. So we hope this occurs every time someone sits down somewhere, with colleagues or friends, to drink and enjoy a De Lisio wine.
To achieve these results the choice is simple to me because I love to blend. Blending allows me to create a style reflecting what De Lisio Wines is all about, delivering a wine with texture and structure, richness, weight and length and most of all, the genuine complexity that can be best achieved by blending the best, seeking the varied and wonderful diversity the different terroir can offer.
Simply put, we like to supply enjoyment. I always say you can buy the colour green but it is far more artistic to blend yellow and blue to create your own shade of green; why paint with one colour when the rainbow is available?
