Our Review

The 1992 merger of Thomas Hardy and the Berri Renmano group may have had some elements of a forced marriage, but the merged group prospered over the next 10 years. It was so successful that a further marriage followed in early 2003, with Constellation Wines of the US the groom and BRL Hardy the bride, creating the largest wine group in the world (the Australian arm was known as Constellation Wines Australia or CWA); but it is now part of the Accolade Wines group. The Hardys wine brands are headed by Thomas Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon, Eileen Hardy Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz; then the Sir James range of sparkling wines; next the HRB wines, the William Hardy quartet; then the expanded Oomoo range and the Nottage Hill wines. The ‘Big Company’ slur is ill deserved – these are some of Australia’s greatest wines. Exports to all major markets. -JH

"The Hardys winemaking philosophy is primarily based on the preservation of varietal fruit characters in all of our wines from the top down, but is one which also incorporates winemaking methods which add an underlying complexity and texture to the wines - taking the best of old world and new world techniques and style and applying this to cutting edge viticulture. This philosophy is a great base on which to build.” - Hardys Chief Winemaker, Paul Lapsley -JH
