Koomilya

South Australia | McLaren Vale

Our Review

The Koomilya vineyard is wedged between the original Upper Tintara vineyard planted in 1862, and the Hope Farm or Seaview vineyard established in the early 1850s. More than 15ha of native bush and scrub, with a creek line that flows through the heart of the property, all have a moderating influence on the microclimate of the property. In ‘12, Stephen Pannell and his wife Fiona embarked on rejuvenating it with organic farming, weeding the native bush and removing olive trees to create biochar to return as charcoal to the soil. Plantings of new varieties have followed, with a small set of wines created to specifically reflect the location, accent and circumstances of the seasons throughout each particular vintage. -TONY LOVE
