Our Review
Maxwell Wines has carved out a reputation as a premium producer in McLaren Vale, making some excellent red wines in recent years. The majority of the vines on the estate were planted in 1972, including 19 rows of the highly regarded Reynella clone of cabernet sauvignon. The Ellen Street shiraz block in front of the winery was planted in '53. In a region abounding with first class restaurants (and chefs), Maxwell has responded to the challenge with extensive renovations to the restaurant and cellar door. Kate Petering, formerly chief winemaker at Mount Langi Ghiran, was appointed head winemaker in March '19. Exports to all major markets.
