Ponting | Backline | King's Creed

South Australia | McLaren Vale

Our Review

The Ponting, Backline and King’s Creed labels all fall under the aegis of Three Kings Wine Merchants, a collaboration between winemaker Ben Riggs, former Wallaby Nathan Sharpe and ex-LVMH marketeer, David Krenich. With no cellar door, sales rely on an online shopping portal, drawing on a broad network of celebrity support. The wines are largely reliant on McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek sources, marked with salubrious oak and plenty of extract at the pointy end of the hierarchy. The Ponting Chardonnay and soon-to-be-released Pinot Noir, hewn of cooler-climate Tasmanian fruit as an homage to the former Australian cricket captain’s participation in the project, are the obvious exceptions.
