Semprevino is the venture of Russell Schroder (mechanical engineering) and Simon Doak (science), who became close friends while studying at Monash University in the early 1990s - although both branched in different directions after graduating. The prime mover is Russell, who, after working for CRA/Rio Tinto for five years, left on a four-month trip to Western Europe and became captivated by the life of a vigneron. Returning to Australia, he enrolled in part-time wine science at CSU, obtaining his wine science degree in 2005. Between '03 and '06 he worked vintages in Italy and Vic, coming under the wing of Stephen Pannell at Tinlins (where the Semprevino wines are made).
Old vine Grenache and Shiraz used to produce classic blends such as Grenache Shiraz and GSM. Also when possible Semprevino loves to make a Nebbiolo.
