Semprevino is the venture of Russell Schroder and Simon Doak, who became close friends while at Monash University in the early 1990s – studying mechanical engineering and science respectively. Russell is the prime mover, who, after working for CRA/Rio Tinto for 5 years, left on a 4-month trip to Western Europe and became captivated by the life of a vigneron. Returning to Australia, he enrolled in part-time wine science at CSU, obtaining his wine science degree in 2005. Between ’03 and ’06 he worked vintages in Italy and Victoria, coming under the wing of Stephen Pannell at Tinlins (where the Semprevino wines are made).
Old vine Grenache and Shiraz used to produce classic blends such as Grenache Shiraz and GSM. Also when possible Semprevino loves to make a Nebbiolo.
