James' Review

After the sale of Maglieri Wines to Beringer Blass in 1998, Maglieri founder Serafino (Steve) Maglieri acquired the McLarens on the Lake complex originally established by Andrew Garrett. The operation draws upon over 120ha of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, merlot, semillon, barbera, nebbiolo, sangiovese, and grenache; part of the grape production is sold. Serafino Wines has won a number of major trophies in Australia and the UK, Steve Magleri awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in January 2018. Exports to the UK, the US, Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia and NZ.

Serafino Maglieri and his father Giovanni planted their first vineyard in the McLaren Vale region in 1968.

Today the Serafino vineyards have expanded to over 350 acres of prime McLaren Vale land, situated in 5 distinctive locations with different soil types and micro-climates.

The vineyards are planted to include Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache, Semillon, plus smaller blocks of Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and Tempranillo.

A modern state of the art winery which includes underground barrel store and cellar, was purpose built for small batch production and completed at the end of 2002 in readiness for the 2003 vintage. The new winery is located in the grounds of the picturesque “Serafino McLaren Vale” complex.

Serafino Maglieri was appointed as Bushing King three times for “Best Red of the Show” McLaren Vale Wine Show in 1979, 1992 & 2007.

The Serafino McLaren Vale complex includes an International cuisine restaurant, 30 room resort, state of the art conference facilities, and outstanding venues for weddings and major events, all in a serene native park like setting.
