This is the Australian operation of Jackson Family Wines, one of the leading premium wine producers in California, which in 2000 acquired the 172ha Eringa Park Vineyard from Normans Wines (the oldest vines dated back to 1923). The renamed Yangarra Estate Vineyard is the estate base for the operation and has moved to certified biodynamic status with its vineyards. Peter Fraser has taken Yangarra Estate to another level altogether with his innovative winemaking and desire to explore all the possibilities of the Rhône Valley red and white styles. Thus you will find grenache, shiraz, mourvèdre, cinsaut, carignan, tempranillo and graciano planted, and picpoul noir, terret noir, muscardin and vaccarese around the corner. The white varieties are roussanne and viognier, with grenache blanc, bourboulenc and picpoul blanc planned. Then you see ceramic eggs being used in parallel with conventional fermenters. In 2015 Peter was named Winemaker of the Year at the launch of the Wine Companion 2016. Exports to the UK, the US, China and other major markets.
Yangarra Estate Vineyard is located in the northeastern foothills of McLaren Vale, at the base of the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges. This district of McLaren Vale is known as Blewitt Springs and lies upon the North Maslin Sands geological formation. The single-vineyard estate comprises 420 acres of towering gum trees, creeks, natural corridoors and vines farmed in 35 individual blocks, with bush-vine Grenache planted in 1946 being the inspiration behind organic their farming methods and committment to growing and producing solely southern Rhone varietals such as Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre, Roussane and Viognier.
