Landaire at Padthaway Estate

South Australia | Padthaway

Our Review

David and Carolyn Brown have been major grapegrowers in Padthaway for 2 decades, David having had vineyard and farming experience, Carolyn with a background in science. Landaire evolved from a desire, after many years of growing grapes at their Glendon Vineyard, to select small quantities of the best grapes to produce wines under their own label. It has proved a sure-fire recipe for success. The 1850s stables have since been converted into a cellar door, with accommodation available in the original 1901 shearers' quarters and 1947 cottage. In 2017 Carolyn and David purchased nearby Padthaway Estate and the '18 Eliza Brut Rosé and '18 Eliza Blanc De Blancs were the first sparkling wines made under their stewardship. Exports to the UK and Hong Kong. -JAMES HALLIDAY

Landaire is a family-owned label by David and Carolyn Brown, producing single-vineyard hand-crafted wines reflecting the unique terroir. Landaire evolved from desire, after years of growing wine grapes and fine tuning their vine management, to put what they do into bottle under their own label. The small parcels of grapes for Landaire wines are carefully selected from their Glendon Vineyard in Padthaway and the winemaking continues the attention to detail. In 2017 Carolyn and David purchased the heritage-listed Padthaway Estate and commenced significant restoration works. The oldest buildings made from the limestone rock underlying the region date back to the 1840's. Their vineyard sits on what was once part of the original Padthaway Station and it is wonderful to see the two properties brought together once more. To honour the history of the property and its original owners, Robert and Eliza Lawson, they are continuing to produce the Padthaway Estate Eliza Sparkling and to utilise the amazing Coquard basket press, one of only two in the Southern Hemisphere. The 2018 Eliza Brut Rosé and 2018 Eliza Blanc De Blancs are the first sparkling wines made under their direction. Landaire and Eliza wines can be tasted at Padthaway Estate's 1850's The Stables Cellar Door, with accommodation available in the original 1901 Shearers Quarters and 1847 Lawson Cottage.
