On one view of the matter, Smith & Hooper is simply one of many brands within various of the Hill-Smith family financial/corporate structures. However, it is estate-based, with cabernet sauvignon and merlot planted on the Hooper Vineyard in 1994, and cabernet sauvignon and merlot planted on the Smith Vineyard in '98. Spread across both vineyards are 9ha of trial varieties. Exports to all major markets.
Smith & Hooper wines are sourced entirely from two Wrattonbully vineyards, previously farmed by the Smith and Hooper families. These are premium wines from exceptional vineyard sites featuring Terra Rossa, a rich, free draining soil that is considered by many as the viticultural equivalent of gold. Extensive trials have led to us focusing on Merlot – a wine expressly suited to the region.
