The production may small, but the story of owners Max and Siobhan Marriot is anything but. Max started his 10 years in wine in NZ studying at Lincoln University, emerging with a bachelor of viticulture and oenology. He then managed vineyards in Central Otago, with a riesling-only brand Auburn, and also had the chance to work vintages in the Mosel, Oregon (Cristom) and Burgundy (Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair). So they packed up their thing and spent a couple of years in Oregon. 'My wife Siobhan and I discovered we were expecting twins, so we made the decision to repatriate ourselves and settle in Tasmania.' Max is involved with Clarence House, leases/manages the Tinderbox Vineyard, and is overseeing a 'new development on North Bruny'. He makes his wines at Pooley, with all of the most highly regarded winemakers in the Huon district Paul and Gilli Lipscombe, Johnny Hughes, Jim and Daisy Chatto and Justin and Anna Pooley. Anim is a very small label, named after their children (Audrey, Niamh and Imogen), but also has other musical and Latin meanings. Grapes are sourced from the Clarence House and Tinderbox vineyards, Tinderbox the source of the Pinot, Chardonnay and Riesling, the 'fun grapes' coming from Clarence House.
