Andrew and Jenny Sinclair took over from founder Alastair Christie in 2014. The vineyard plantings consist of 2ha of pinot noir (including three Dijon clones), 1.4ha of chardonnay and 0.6ha of pinot gris on a north-facing slope with spectacular views of Marion Bay. The property is one of several in the region that are changing from dairy and beef cattle to wine production and tourism. Exports to Singapore.
Cape Bernier is a family owned and operated vineyard dedicated to the production of fine wine. Located on the slopes of an ancient volcanic range with expansive ocean views and modulating sea breezes, Cape Bernier's maritime climate and rich soils provide the ideal growing conditions for cool climate varietal wines. Our long, slow ripening period in cool, dry, sunny condition produces wine with intense fruit flavours and high natural acids. Established in 1998, the vineyard has 4 ha under vine producing Pinot Noir (50%), Chardonnay (25%) & Pinot Gris (25%) grapes. Our Chardonnay displays citrus and stone fruit, Pinot Gris apple, pear and honey, while our Pinot Noir is elegant, perfumed and spicy with berry, dark plum and savoury spice characters. Our sparkling wines, made in the méthode traditionelle, are dominated by fresh fruit characters, crisp acidity and smooth creamy bubbles – heavenly! Our approach to wine-making is simple – that of minimalist intervention. We believe that growing the best quality grapes will produce the best quality wines. Using the best of both old and new world methods our wines are made to showcase the intense and zesty fruit flavours unique to Cape Bernier.
