Since acquiring Coal Valley Vineyard in 1999, Gill Christian and Todd Goebel have increased the original 1ha hobby vineyard to 4.5ha of pinot noir, riesling, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, chardonnay and tempranillo. More remarkable were Gill and Todd’s concurrent lives: one in India, the other in Tasmania (flying over six times a year), and digging 4000 holes for the new vine plantings. Todd makes the Pinot Noir and Tempranillo onsite, and dreams of making all the wines. Exports to Canada.

The first "Old Block" of vines at Coal Valley Vineyard was first planted in 199. Over twenty years later the vineyard, with steep slopes facing due north, has a steady track record of producing award winning, elegant, cool climate wines.
Owners Gillian Christian and Todd Goebel purchased the property in 1999 and, keeping it family owned and run, have been adding on since then with a strong focus on sustainability. Twelve acres of vines are now planted out mainly to Pinot Noir but also to Riesling, Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
All the vines are hand pruned, grapes are hand picked and only the best quality fruit is used to produce the Coal Valley Vineyard wines.
The cellar door and restaurant are perched just above the Old Block, with sweeping views of the Coal River Valley, Pittwater and Barilla Bay.
