Mitchell Harris Wines is a partnership between Alicia and Craig Mitchell and Shannyn and John Harris. John, the winemaker, began his career at Brown Brothers, then spent eight years as winemaker at Domaine Chandon in the Yarra Valley, cramming in Northern Hemisphere vintages in California and Oregon. The Mitchell and Harris families grew up in the Ballarat area and have an affinity for the Macedon and Pyrenees regions. While the total make is not large, a lot of thought has gone into the creation of each of the wines, which are sourced from the Pyrenees, Ballarat and Macedon regions. In 2012 a multipurpose space was created in an 1880s brick workshop and warehouse providing a cellar door, bar and education facility. Exports to Switzerland.
Established in 2008, the Mitchell Harris team (Shannyn & John Harris and in-laws, Craig & Alicia Mitchell) have been creating wines with a focus on elegance, reflecting the cool-climate characters of the neighbouring viticulture regions. Based in their home town of Ballarat, and surrounded by the great wine regions of Western and central Victoria, winemaker John Harris, works with dedicated growers in the Pyrenees, Macedon, Ballarat and Henty wine regions to craft wines that show distinctive varietal characters and reflect the unique vineyard, region and seasonal variations. In the heart of the city of Ballarat, in a refurbished an 1870s produce store and workshop, the Mitchell Harris team are sharing the great wines and stories of Western Victoria in their unique cellar door, wine bar and event space. Along with the Mitchell Harris Wines range, the wine bar is a delicious gateway to the wines of our surrounding regions in Central and Western Victoria, including the Pyrenees, Grampians and Macedon. The seasonal bar menu matches wines with the best of the region’s produce – from bar snacks and shared plates to a full dining experience, all created by the talented kitchen team.
