The Waratah Hills Vineyard is located on the road to the famous Wilsons Promontory. It had been established with advice from Phillip Jones (of Bass Phillip) on a northeast slope in a beautifully domed valley formed by Battery Creek, the vines (2.8ha of pinot noir and 1.2ha of chardonnay) now fully mature. Judy and Neil Travers purchased the property in '09, supported by daughter Megan at the cellar door. Since the acquisition, the family has worked hard on a program of continual vineyard improvement, and appointed well-known and highly regarded Marcus Satchell as their contract winemaker. All of this paid a significant dividend when the 2012 Pinot Noir was awarded three trophies, including Best Wine of Show, at the Gippsland Wine Show '13.
Producing exceptional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sparkling and Rose is the absolute focus of owners Neil and Judy Travers with the help of their exceptional team and wine makers Marcus Satchell and Mal Stewart.
Waratah Hills Vineyard was planted 15 years ago with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Merlot varieties in the Burgundy style of low trellising and close planting. Today with a hands on approach to vineyard management (from picking through to pruning),minimal intervention and traditional wine making techniques, Waratah Hills Vineyard is producing beautiful wine.
