Mark and Glenys Handley did not rush when establishing Glenmar Wines. Planning of the single-site vineyard began in 1998, and they waited seven years for the first vintage. This was not due to any lack of skill or commitment, for the vineyard is managed (on a part-time basis) by Mark Schultz, who has viticultural fingers in the Goulburn Valley region. The same applies to the winemaking, carried out by Sam Plunkett and Victor Nash in the Strathbogie Ranges winery now known as Plunkett Fowles. Both initial releases won medals in important wine shows.
Glenmar Wines is a young brand that has carved itself a place amongst the very best small wine producers. It delivers consistent, high-quality, handcrafted wines of distinction. Its own premium grapes have been selected to maintain this consistent style and quality. Glenmar‘s wines have excellent structure and length, and while they are ready for drinking now, they will gain further complexity over the next two to four years and have a cellaring potential of five to eight years.
