Dr Graeme Bertuchs involvement in grapegrowing and winemaking goes back far further than the establishment of Mount Cole Wineworks. In 1977 he established Cathcart Ridge, but found the time demands on a rural doctor-cum-vigneron were too much. He sold Cathcart Ridge in 93, but did not sell the itch to grow grapes and make wine. He now has 3.5ha of shiraz and 1ha of viognier planted since 98, and in 2007 purchased the somewhat neglected and rundown Mt Chalambar Vineyard previously owned by the late Trevor Mast; it had 2ha each of riesling and chardonnay, planted in the 1980s. Since that time there has been a systematic, albeit gradual, resurrection of the vineyard. Exports to China.
