Our Review
Best’s winery and vineyards date back to 1866. One of the vines planted in the Nursery Block has defied identification and is thought to exist nowhere else in the world. The Thomson family has owned the property since 1920. Best’s consistently produces elegant, supple wines; the Bin No. 0 is a classic, the Thomson Family Shiraz is magnificent. Very occasionally a unique pinot meunier (with 15% pinot noir) is made solely from 1868 plantings of those 2 varieties. Best's were awarded Wine of the Year in '17 and Best Value Winery '21. About
We are a family-owned and operated winery that was established back in 1866 by Henry Best. In 1920 the Thomson Family purchased it from Henry's son Charles Best, and is now run by 5th generation Ben Thomson. As one of Australia's 'best kept winery secrets', Best's houses some of the oldest and rarest vines in the world Visitors can view these vines from outside the Cellar Door. The Cellar Door is housed in the original 1870's stables which is still in its original state. Guests can wonder around and look at all the history and then take a self-guided tour through our 1870's underground Cellars. Now producing around thirty different wines each year, Best's Wines has rightfully received a plethora of accolades during its years, and was most recently dubbed the 'Best Value Winery' of 2021 by James Halliday.
