Following the 2008 sale of their very large vineyard and vine nursery propagation business, the Chalmers family has refocused its wine businesses. All fruit comes from the 80ha property on Mt Camel Range in Heathcote, which provides the grapes for the individual variety, single vineyard Chalmers range (Vermentino, Fiano, Greco, Lambrusco, Rosato, Nero d'Avola, Sagrantino and Aglianico). The entry-level Montevecchio label is based around blends and more approachable styles. A second vineyard at Merbein is a contract grapegrower, but also has a small nursery block housing the Chalmers' clonal selections. In '13 a program of micro-vinification of the rarer, and hitherto unutilised, varieties from the Nursery Block was introduced. In '17 a new winery was commissioned in time for most of that year's vintage, and from '18 all winemaking was carried out at Merbein. Exports to the UK and Japan.
