Time flies, and it seems incredible that Crawford River celebrated its 45th birthday in 2020. Once a tiny outpost in a little-known wine region, Crawford River is now a foremost producer of riesling (and other excellent wines), originally thanks to the unremitting attention to detail and skill of its founder and winemaker, John Thomson. His elder daughter Belinda has worked alongside her father part-time from ’04–11 (full-time between June ’05–08) and has been chief winemaker since ’12. She obtained her viticulture and oenology degree in ’02 and has experience in Marlborough (NZ), Bordeaux (France), Tuscany (Italy) and the Nahe (Germany). Between '08 and '16 she was a senior winemaker/technical director of a winery in Rueda, Spain. Younger daughter Fiona is in charge of sales and marketing. Exports to the UK and Japan.
