John Stokes planted the first vines at Wood Park in 1989 as part of a diversification program for his property at Bobinawarrah, in the hills of the Lower King Valley, east of Milawa. The vineyard is managed with minimal chemical use and a mix of modern and traditional winemaking techniques are used (wild yeast-open fermentation and hand-plunging). The reach of Wood Park has been expanded with Beechworth Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the mix of mainstream and alternative varieties all well made.
Wood Park Wines’ owner and winemaker John Stokes first stomped on grapes in the 1980s, and has been following his passion for wine ever since. Grapes are grown all around the King Valley to produce an extensive range of top quality, award winning wines including Prosecco, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Cabernet, Shiraz, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, Viognier and Roussanne. Co-located with the renowned Milawa Cheese Company since 2002, Wood Park Wines is known for its friendly tasting experience and knowledgeable service. James Halliday’s Wine Companion has rated Wood Park as a five star winery for the past five years.
