Maygars Hill Winery

Victoria | Strathbogie Ranges

Our Review

Jenny Houghton purchased this 8ha property in '94, planting shiraz (1.9ha) and cabernet sauvignon (1.3ha). The name comes from Lieutenant Colonel Maygar, who fought with outstanding bravery in the Boer War in South Africa in 1901 and was awarded the Victoria Cross. The shiraz and cabernet sauvignon, both in Reserve and standard guise, have been consistently excellent for a number of years. In mid-2021, the winery was sold to established vineyard owners from North East Victoria. -JAMES HALLIDAY
