Our Review
Ian and June Marks established Gembrook Hill, one of the oldest vineyards in the southernmost part of the Upper Yarra Valley. The northeast-facing vineyard is in a natural amphitheatre; the low-yielding sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and pinot noir are not irrigated. The minimal approach to winemaking produces wines of a consistent style with finesse and elegance. The unexpected death of Ian in March 2017, and the decision of former winemaker Timo Mayer to concentrate on his own label, left son Andrew Marks in charge of winemaking at Gembrook Hill (and his own label, The Wanderer). Exports to the UK, the US, Denmark, Japan and Malaysia.
