On 5 April 2016 Brown Brothers and Giant Steps announced that the Innocent Bystander brand (including Mea Culpa) and stock had been sold to Brown Brothers. As part of the acquisition, Brown Brothers purchased the White Rabbit Brewery site adjacent to Giant Steps, and this has become the cellar door home of Innocent Bystander. Its business is in two completely different wine categories, both fitting neatly together. On the one hand is the big volume (confidential) of vintage moscato, the grapes coming from the King Valley, and non vintage prosecco, similarly sourced. The other side of the business is the premium, high quality Yarra Valley single varietal wines, with substantial brand value. Exports to the UK, the US and other major markets.
At Innocent Bystander we create wines that are delicious expressions of what we love to make and drink. They’re perfect for exploring iconic varieties from our home in the Yarra Valley along with inspiring varieties from elsewhere in Victoria.
We start every vintage with the finest fruit from our Valley and beyond. From here, the serious winemaking bit is easy. Gentle coercion featuring wild yeasts and lackadaisical whole-bunch ferments allowing our grapes to do what comes naturally. This approach is rewarded, with every bottle a well-rounded manifestation of impeccable vinous genes and an affectionate winery upbringing. All our wines are served at our home in Healesville, where you can also enjoy wood fired pizzas, paellas, local beers and great coffee.
