Our Review
Mandala is owned by Charles Smedley, who acquired the established vineyard in ’07. The vineyard has vines up to 25 years old, but the spectacular restaurant and cellar door complex is a more recent addition. The vineyards are primarily at the home base in Dixons Creek, with chardonnay (9.1ha), pinot noir (6.1ha), cabernet sauvignon (4.4ha) and shiraz (1.7ha). There is a separate 4.4ha vineyard at Yarra Junction planted entirely to pinot noir with an impressive clonal mix. -JAMES HALLIDAY
Specialities
Mandala Wines produce an Estate range and a Single-Site range of cool-climate wines.
The Estate range comprises of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rose, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, NV Sparkling and Blanc de Blancs.
Made only when vintage conditions are in complete harmony, Mandala's Single-Site range are emblematic of a strong single-region, single-vineyard winemaking philosophy. The range now includes five wines, each one bearing its own icon representing a member of Mandala's founding Smedley family: 'The Compass' Chardonnay, 'The Prophet' Pinot Noir, 'The Matriarch' Pinot Noir, 'The Rock' Shiraz and 'The Butterfly' Cabernet Sauvignon.
