Seville Estate

Victoria | Yarra Valley

James' Review

Seville Estate was one of the first-generation wineries when founded by Dr Peter and Margaret McMahon in 1972. It underwent several changes in ownership up to 2006, when wealthy Chinese businessman Yipping Wang, with a background of a chain of wine shops in China, acquired outright ownership. Throughout the changes, Peter McMahon's grandson Dylan McMahon remained as winemaker, and has been appointed general manager/winemaker. Significant investments have been made, including the purchase of the neighbouring vineyard and property (formerly Ainsworth Estate), which has lifted the property size to 20ha, with 12ha under vine. The extra land has allowed for replanting original vine material grafted onto rootstock in an effort to preserve the original 1972 clones and safeguard the future of the precious property. Seville Estate also has luxury accommodation with the original homestead and three self-contained apartments. Exports to the US, Canada and China.

Founded in 1972 by Dr Peter and Margaret McMahon, Seville Estate has been at the forefront of the modern Yarra Valley wine movement for 40 years. Today the winery is managed by Dylan McMahon, who joined Seville Estate in 1998 following the passion ignited by his grandparents a generation before. While other wineries plant in proven grounds, Seville Estate’s roots are set in the soil of the Upper Yarra Valley in the foothills of Mount Dandenong at an elevation of 200m. Seville Estate is just an hour’s drive from Melbourne, off the Warburton Highway (B380) and away from the valley crowds. The Upper Yarra’s distinctive macro climate comes to life in the glass, showing perfumed and delicate characters that Seville Estate wines have become known for.
