Yarra Edge was established by the Bingeman family in 1983, who were advised and guided by John Middleton (of Mount Mary). The advice was, of course, good and Yarra Edge has always been able to produce high quality fruit if the vineyard was properly managed. Up to '98 the wines were made onsite under the Yarra Edge label, but in that year the vineyard was leased by Yering Station, which used the grapes for their own wines. Subsequently the vineyard received minimal care until it was purchased by a Chinese-owned company, which set about restoring it to its full glory. This has been achieved with Lucas Hoorn (formerly of Hoddles Creek Estate and Levantine Hill) as full-time vineyard manager and Dylan McMahon as contract winemaker, the wines made at Seville Estate. The quality of the wines speaks for itself. Exports to China.
YARRA EDGE Vineyard is widely regarded as one of the gems of the valley inspired by the great wine styles of Bordeaux and Burgundy. Plantings commenced in 1983 by the Bingeman family with premium varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay based on the advice and guidance of the Middleton family. The elevation, topography and characteristics combine to provide the perfect site to produce wines of great quality and elegance. The wines were originally grown and made on site, released under the YARRA EDGE label. This changed in 1998, when the vineyard was leased to Yering Station, where the Cabernet consistently made single vineyard classification. In 2013, the property was purchased by the new owners, who were aware of the vineyard's pedigree, and with a 100% quality focus, set about restoring the entire property to its former glory.
