Zonzo Estate

The Zonzo brand began life as a restaurant in ’07, located at the then Train Trak Vineyard, where vines were first planted back in ’95. Owner Rod Micallef acquired the surrounding property and vineyard in ’15, renaming it Zonzo Estate. Winemaker Caroline Mooney has overseen the conversion of a Lilydale warehouse into a dedicated winery, with new Swiss cooling technology, solar power and rainwater recycling. The vineyard is growing too, with an additional 20ha being planted in ’23 to pinot noir, barbera, nebbiolo, sangiovese fiano and pecorino. The Scoperta experimental range was launched in ’21, dedicated to Italian varieties that might better suit a future climate. Spirits and beers, produced off-site, are also part of the Zonzo range. -JAMES HALLIDAY
