Castelli Estate

Western Australia | Great Southern

James' Review

Castelli Estate will cause many small winery owners to go green with envy. When Sam Castelli purchased the property in late 2004, he was intending simply to use it as a family holiday destination. But because there was a partly constructed winery he decided to complete the building work and simply lock the doors. However, wine was in his blood courtesy of his father, who owned a small vineyard in Italy's south. The temptation was too much, and in '07 the winery was commissioned. Fruit is sourced from some of the best sites in WA: Frankland River, Mount Barker, Pemberton and Porongurup. Exports to the US, South Korea, Singapore, Japan and China.

The quaint country village of San Giorgio a Liri, in Italy’s Lazio region, was Sam and Maria Castelli’s birthplace. It’s a farming village that is home to many grain, corn and sunflower producers, but it was in the region’s vineyards that the Castelli family’s passion for wine developed.

In 2004, the Castelli’s dream of a family-owned winery became a reality when, upon the slopes of Mt Shadforth, the Castelli Estate property was purchased – a 120-acre farm which overlooks Wilson’s Inlet, Mt. Lindesay and the lush countryside around Denmark. The property was acquired with a semi-complete winery which, with the family’s extensive construction and engineering experience, was later completed in 2006.

With a strong commitment to quality, the next 12 months were spent putting together a highly talented winemaking team. The Castelli family enticed winemaker Mike Garland to come on board in what were the beginnings of one of today’s most promising Western Australian boutique wine brands.

Through our dedicated winemaking team’s extensive experience, the sourcing of the state’s best fruit and the family’s passion and commitment to quality, Castelli Estate’s wines hold the promise of something special. With our name on every bottle, we are proud to bring you what is synonymous with the Castelli name: a passion for wines that are made with a relentless commitment to quality.

The estate is surrounded by a towering ancient forest on Mount Shadforth in Denmark, with breathtaking views across the vineyards to Mount Lindesay and the Stirling Range. It's a place of pleasure and relaxation for people of all ages to enjoy – from fine wine to rustic, wholesome food, peaceful accommodation and music performances set against the spectacular vineyard views. The winery experience at Castelli Vineyards reflects the harmony and natural beauty of the area, with outstanding customer service and premium local products. It's a beautiful place to escape and enjoy some of the best that life has to offer.
