Our Review
The antecedents of today’s Arlewood shifted several times; they might interest a PhD researcher, but – with one exception – have no relevance to today’s business. That exception was the 1999 planting of the vineyard by the (then) Xanadu winemaker Jurg Muggli. Garry Gossatti purchased the run-down, close-planted vineyard in 2008, and lived in the onsite house from ’08–12, driving to Perth one day per week for his extensive hospitality/hotel business (which paid Arlewood’s bills). His involvement in the resurrection of the vineyard was hands-on, and the cool site in the south of Margaret River was, and remains, his obsession. Garry’s sons Jordan and Adrian now work in the vineyard and Garry drives down every weekend from Perth, clearly believing that the owner’s footsteps make the best fertiliser. Exports to the UK, Hong Kong and China.
