In 2006 Higher Plane was purchased by the late Roger Hill and Gillian Anderson (of Juniper Estate), but kept as a stand-alone brand, with different distributors, etc. The Higher Plane vineyards are planted to all the key varieties: chardonnay and sauvignon blanc are foremost, with cabernet sauvignon, merlot, tempranillo, fiano, semillon, cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot making up the rest. Exports to Hong Kong.
The Higher Plane property is located in the Forest Grove locality of the Margaret River wine region, 15km south of the Margaret River. It was established in 1997 and has ideal exposure and gravelly duplex soils. The varieties planted were carefully selected clones and closely-planted to produce low yields and increase fruit intensity. Management of the vineyards is sympathetic to preserving the pristine nature of this unspoiled environment by utilising natural practices wherever possible.
